SMU Enters the S&P Sustainability Yearbook 2026 for the Second Consecutive Year

SMU, the parent company of Unimarc, Alvi and Super10 in Chile, and Maxiahorro and Mayorsa in Peru, has been included for the second consecutive year in the Sustainability Yearbook 2026 published by S&P Global, which recognizes companies that achieved strong scores in the S&P Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). In the food and staples retail industry, 128 companies were assessed worldwide, and SMU was one of the ten that qualified for this recognition. Within its industry, SMU ranked first in Chile, second in the region, and eighth globally.

SMU achieved a score of 69 out of 100 in the latest CSA, which annually measures companies’ sustainability practices by industry and compares social, economic and environmental criteria. Across all industries, out of 9,200 companies assessed, only 848 qualified for inclusion in the Sustainability Yearbook.

“For SMU, being included for the second consecutive year in S&P’s Sustainability Yearbook shows that our sustainability-driven culture is translating into concrete progress and that our management is aligned with global best practices, which makes us very proud. This sustainability culture that we have developed as a company will serve as an enabler for the execution of our new strategic plan, helping us create value for our customers and all our stakeholders,” said Marcelo Gálvez, CEO of SMU.

S&P Global’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment is an annual evaluation that measures companies’ sustainability performance worldwide, based on a consistent methodology of industry-specific questionnaires that address environmental, social and governance dimensions and generate a comparative score among peers.

Paula Coronel, SMU’s Corporate Head of People and Sustainability, explained: “At our organization, we are committed to a more sustainable, responsible and transparent operation, and the CSA provides us with an external benchmark to monitor and put our management into perspective on issues that are key to our industry, contributing to the continuous improvement of the processes and practices we implement across the company. This year, we once again improved our score, reflecting the work of our employees across the different areas of our operations.”
